Quick read, very cute, some depth but not too much, big on consent and boundaries, 2-4 dysphoria scenes but they were handled very gently. The guards chefs kiss, they are the sweetest, not too much on background on them yet.
My only complaint is that I wish it was longer ik there are 2 other books but damnnnn 100pgs go by sooo fassstttt

okay why i say its a 1.5 spicy as its just a super sweet sexual experience. A 5 would be a hard core bsdm scene. (Thats just not needed here)
I really like how it is both sweet and reserved. The level of intimacy just boooosts the sexual experience which I think is sooo important. But also knowing that they have known eachother maybe 24-48 hours.
I bought all of Van Dalen’s books on bundle sale and decided to dip my toes in The Prince’s Dearest Guards series first. While there are some typical independent author fumbles like continuity and awkward phrasing, The Prince’s Dearest Guards magnificently accomplishes what it set off to do: tell a mega-hot, sexy tale of love and acceptance between a trans prince and his two cis guards. The magic-hating monarchy takes a backseat to character work, leaving plenty of questions for the sequels to answer. The novella is tender, sweet, and wholesome. If you’re looking for a gentle trans man polyam romantasy, I definitely recommend!

and I want to say that Beau past and present work are amazing, the characters are so very personable and each different setting of sci-fi to fantasy are so immersive
